Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation (NOR)

Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation is the specialty that studies the integration of mastication with muscles, functional and parafunctional habits, and overall posture in both children and adults.

The purpose of this appointment is to eliminate or reduce the causes of functional disorders, promote proper dental development, and ensure effective and efficient chewing. It is important to begin this process in childhood, during the primary dentition stage, to allow for symmetrical growth and correct posture.

When chewing is predominantly one-sided or based on an overly soft diet, the masticatory system does not develop properly, increasing the risk of tooth wear, cavities, periodontal disease, and postural changes that can affect not only the face but also the spine and associated musculature.

Assessing a child’s breathing capacity is crucial, as predominantly oral breathing can contribute to frequent colds, worsen allergic conditions, cause snoring, nighttime bruxism, and poor sleep quality.

Oral breathing and airway obstruction can reduce oxygenation to the brain, affecting concentration, learning ability, and behavior.
