PERIODONTOLOGY

Your dental and gingival health causes a direct impact on your general health system.
Recent studies have shown that the same bacteria that cause gingival inflammation can also damage the coronary arteries.
Gingival inflammation arises when there is tartar and bacterial plaque formation and is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults. The sign is presence of blood on the toothbrush and is, commonly painless, but in more severe cases, the gums might appear reddish, with edema and painful – gingivitis.
The lack of treatment in these cases can exacerbate the inflammation leading to gingival recession and bone reabsorption and eventually to teeth loss – periodontitis.
The first approach to periodontitis treatment is to undergo a cleaning and infragingival scaling but it in some cases it is necessary to medicate or resort to surgical procedures to remove the infragingival tartar.
During the treatment, you will be taught the correct daily brushing and flossing technique. If your teeth display some gingival recession on an aesthetic area, the ideal treatment is plastic periodontal surgery, a procedure that will allows to improve the aesthetics and architecture, to reduce the dental sensitivity and to prevent the progression of the loss of gingival tissue caused by periodontitis.
